It is looking like Netgear, with their new ReadyNAS Ultra could actually put an end to local media storage as we know it. This device will come in 2 bay, 4 bay and 6 bay designs and will give users unprecedented freedom when it comes to their digital media. It will also be compatible with Tivo DVR’s allowing you to store all of your favorite HD shows. The price will start at $599.99 and go all the way up to $1,349.99. [UberGizmo]
Netgear is back with a couple of next-generation HomePlug AV-certified powerline kits in the form of the compact Powerline AV 500 Adapter Kit (XAVB5001) and the Powerline AV+ 500 Adapter Kit (XAVB5501) which comes with a filtered “pass-through” power socket. These adapters are designed to be compatible with the draft international IEEE P1901 powerline standard and provides greater speeds for bandwidth-hungry applications such as lag-free Internet gaming, Voice over IP (VoIP), large file transfers to networked devices, and simultaneous 1080p HD video streaming to multiple TVs throughout the home. NETGEAR will introduce these new products at the CeBIT trade show in Hannover, Germany. [Press Release]
Ericsson and Netgear have collaborated to launch a new 3G/Wi-Fi router in the form of the Netgear MBRN3300. This wireless router can use an internal 3G modem, including HSPA+ at roughly 20Mbps, and share the link through either 802.11n Wi-Fi or through four 100Mbps Ethernet ports. The device is ideal for use as a modem for homes where regular cable, DSL or fiber isn’t available, or for completely mobile local networks. The Netgear MBRN3300 supports Windows PC, Macintosh, and virtually all Ethernet devices. Too bad, there is no info on pricing or availability so far. [Netgear]
